After School Activities After-School Activities in Gloucestershire

There is something special about the start of a new school year, which seems to bring about a real sense of purpose and a chance to start afresh. Once the new school uniform has been labelled and the bags packed, thoughts turn to after-school clubs.

Here on the Gloucestershire Oracle we have the best guide to local leisure clubs and classes for the whole family. We feature a wide range of out-of-school activities, clubs, lessons and classes that are available on a regular basis, in term-time. Some are pay as you go, others require you to commit to a block of lessons, but some offer a trial lesson to give you the opportunity of finding out if you and your child enjoy the activity. Many groups will have a waiting list, so always contact the business before turning up at a class.

Activities for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers in Gloucestershire

There is a fantastic selection of classes and regular activities specifically aimed at the under 5s in Gloucestershire. You and your pre-schooler can have lots of fun together with baby massage, language, sport, gymnastics, music and dancing classes. These classes are aimed at developing a child’s physical ability or language skills, as well their social skills.

Pre-school playgroups offer the chance for toddlers to interact with other children of their own age, as well as giving their parent or carer to meet others with children of a similar age.

Music and movement classes introduce your child to fun sensory experiences to aid their development. Toddlers will enjoy making sounds with basic percussion instruments, teaching them a sense of rhythm. These fun, interactive sessions for pre-school children will build their confidence, whilst developing co-ordination and social skills.

Les Petits Zouzous Les Petits Zouzous: French for Kids

Children who are exposed to a second language from a young age benefit from learning the language intuitively, as they do their mother tongue. Learning French with your baby or toddler is not only great fun, but gives your child a head-start in learning the language before formal lessons begin at school. Les Petits Zouzous classes for babies focuses on teaching French using nursery rhymes and puppets. Classes get more physical and interactive, with songs becoming more complex as the children get older. Les Petits Zouzous also offer classes for primary school children, so they can continue learning until French lessons are taught at secondary school. Find out more about Les Petits Zouzous French classes for pre-school and primary aged children and mention the Gloucestershire Oracle when you enquire about a free trial lesson!

Swimming Lessons for Kids Gloucestershire Swimming Lessons in Gloucestershire

The national curriculum states that children should be able to swim at least 25m by the end of primary school. A 2013 survey for the ASA and Kellogg’s, found that 1.1 million children cannot swim 25m. That is half of seven to eleven year olds in England who cannot swim the length of a standard pool. Unfortunately, whether due to time, money or pressure on schools to deliver exam results, many schools are not meeting the required amount of swimming lessons. In 2011, 47 people under the age of 19 died from drowning. It therefore falls to parents to ensure that their children are taught this valuable life skill. Fortunately, there are lots of swimming schools throughout Gloucestershire that offer swimming lessons after-school and at weekends.
