Chess is said to improve concentration, memory, patience and decision making skills, amongst other benefits. Many schools have introduced chess clubs to encourage their pupils to take up the game, but you are never too old to learn! It is claimed that by keeping your brain active you can help preserve your brain's memory centre and hold off degenerative diseases like Alzheimers. You can find chess clubs for all ages here in Gloucestershire, where you can learn to play chess, play for recreation or even take part in chess leagues.
Gloucester Chess Club meets every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm
