Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi classes are more gentle forms of exercise, but all claim to have excellent health benefits. Pilates is a technique that corrects imbalances of your body posture by incorporating slow and measured movements in order to create lean and stronger muscles around your torso, improving flexibility and preventing injury. Yoga seeks to promote health and well-being through physical exercise. Regular practice makes the body strong, supple and healthy, it has a profound effect on circulation and the functioning of the inner organs, glands and nerves leading to greater energy, better concentration, and a happier, more fulfilling life. Types of yoga include Hatha yoga, British Wheel of Yoga, Dru yoga and yoga for pregnancy. Tai Chi combines deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements. It promotes physical and mental well-being, leading to greater flexibility, balance and improving breathing and posture. Older people and those with limited mobility are said to find it particularly beneficial. Here in Gloucestershire there are lots of local classes for you to try.
