What could be more pleasant than spending an afternoon in a quintessential English garden? Gloucestershire has many gardens open to the public, from large country houses, to National Trust properties and privately owned gardens. It is a great way to discover the villages of Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds that you may not otherwise have cause to visit and enjoy the wonderful scenery along the way. Many smaller gardens open their gates for charity under the National Gardens Scheme and the British Red Cross Open Gardens (see our What's On Guide to find these). We are also fortunate in having two marvellous arboretums, including Westonbirt, the National Arboretum.

With a collection of 250 varieties of snowdrops, it has been called 'England's greatest snowdrop garden'. Visitors can enjoy the snowdrops throughout the ten acre garden with its woodland and lakeside paths, the Spring Garden and Formal Garden, alongside drifts of cyclamen, hellebores and other winter plants. Limited seasonal opening days. Group visits can be arranged.
