What could be more pleasant than spending an afternoon in a quintessential English garden? Gloucestershire has many gardens open to the public, from large country houses, to National Trust properties and privately owned gardens. It is a great way to discover the villages of Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds that you may not otherwise have cause to visit and enjoy the wonderful scenery along the way. Many smaller gardens open their gates for charity under the National Gardens Scheme and the British Red Cross Open Gardens (see our What's On Guide to find these). We are also fortunate in having two marvellous arboretums, including Westonbirt, the National Arboretum.

A grade 1 Listed Tudor farmhouse adjacent to the River Thames, built in 1570 from local limestone. The summer home of William Morris and contains an outstanding collection of the possessions and works of Morris, his family and associates, including furniture, original textiles, pictures, carpets, ceramics and metalwork. William Morris, his wife Jame and children Jenny and May are buried in the grounds of St George's church, Kelmcott. Seasonal opening.
